Oulton Mill Pool – Reopening.

Oulton Mill Pool – Reopening.

Following discussions with Members of the Club’s Management Committee it has been agreed that Oulton Mill Pool will reopen for Fishing to all Members as and from the 1st July 2017 subject to there being no further Carp Deaths in the intervening period. An extra two weeks of rest has been agreed for the fish following these deaths.

A preliminary report from the E A fishery Scientists at Brampton stated “I would suggest that the main trigger here was likely to be the Algal Bloom with parasite infections as an additional stressor”.

The small Carp which was seen in distress and which was caught by the E A from the Pool and sent to their Brampton facility has also tested positive for a variant of Cyprinid Herpes Virus 3 (KHV) which is a 96% match to the KHV disease proper. We have been further advised that as this is NOT KHV proper and there are no long term implications for the water but we must remain vigilant and if losses continue or restart then the Environment Agency must be advised immediately.

The Club are awaiting the Full Report from the Environment Agency, but until that report has been received and we have been able to seek further guidance and/or expert help on what reasonable precautions we need to take for the future well being of the Pool. In allowing Fishing to restart we must advise ALL Members and their Guests who fish at Oulton Mill Pool to ensure that they take reasonable and practical precautions to prevent the spread of this disease and that as minimum requirement their Landing Nets, Weigh Slings, UnHooking Mats are air dried both before and after fishing the Pool.
