We have today had lengthy discussions with the E.A. they believe the fish deaths are due to the algae bloom which is causing high and low levels of dissolved oxygen in the water we have 130% during the day and 30% during the night this coupled with variations in ph levels is putting undue stress on the fish. Carp being a heavy fish are sinking to the bottom and rising to the surface days later when they become full of gas. This is why most fish we find have been dead for a while. They will only send fish for testing that are barely alive and when large numbers of fish are dying at one time.
They believe there are no obvious other problems evident in the water.
The barley straw will take effect in 4-5 weeks from now, the high stock level in the pool can also add to the problem at times like this. All we can do is keep monitoring the pool and hope we get some rain and cooler temperatures.
Obviously we cannot fish this water until we are confident that things are returning to normal so the water will remain closed until further notice.
PLEASE NOTE – Our match on 28th May scheduled for Oulton Mill will now be held on Willow Pool due to ongoing issues with Oulton Mill Pool.
Very sorry about this but we are in the hands of nature….
